ADATA Company History

ADATA Technology was founded in 2001 and within a relatively short period became one of the world's largest suppliers of DRAM and NAND Flash products. The company has its own manufacturing facilities in China and Taiwan, as well as research centers in several countries.

ADATA develops two major brands: ADATA (the core brand targeting the mass market and enterprise segment) and XPG (extreme performance series for gamers and enthusiasts, also applicable in high-performance workstations).

ADATA Product Lines

RAM Modules

ADATA produces DDR4 and DDR5 modules for desktops, laptops, and servers.

Memory Module Series

  • XPG (Xtreme Performance Gear): high-performance modules with frequencies up to 6400 MHz, heatsinks, and RGB lighting. Capacity up to 64 GB per module. Suitable for workstations and gaming systems.
  • ADATA Premier: basic modules for office computers and laptops. Frequencies 2666-3200 MHz, capacity from 4 to 32 GB.
  • ADATA ECC: error-correcting modules for server systems. Supports UDIMM, RDIMM, LRDIMM types. Capacity from 8 to 128 GB per module.

Solid-State Drives (SSDs)

The SSD range includes models with SATA, M.2 SATA, M.2 NVMe interfaces and 2.5", M.2 2280, M.2 2242 form factors.

SSD Series

  • XPG (Gammix, SX, Atom): high-performance NVMe SSDs for gaming and professional workloads. Read speeds up to 7400 MB/s (PCIe 4.0).
  • ADATA Ultimate (SU): SATA SSDs for office systems and laptops. Read speeds up to 560 MB/s. Endurance (TBW) from 80 to 800 TB depending on capacity.
  • ADATA Enterprise: SSDs for servers and data centers with enhanced write endurance, power loss protection (PLP), and telemetry support.

External Drives

  • Portable HDDs (HD, HV): capacity from 1 to 5 TB, USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface. HD650 and HD710 models feature shock-resistant enclosures (MIL-STD-810G).
  • Portable SSDs (SE, SD): capacity from 256 GB to 2 TB, USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, read speeds up to 1000 MB/s. SE800 models have water and dust protection (IP68).

Flash Cards and USB Drives

  • SD and microSD cards in UHS-I, UHS-II classes for cameras, smartphones, and dashcams;
  • USB flash drives in UV, UE, UC series with USB 3.2 and USB 2.0 interfaces.

ADATA Technologies

NAND Flash Types

  • SLC (Single-Level Cell): 1 bit per cell, maximum endurance and reliability, used in industrial and server solutions;
  • MLC (Multi-Level Cell): 2 bits per cell, balance of performance and endurance;
  • TLC (Triple-Level Cell): 3 bits per cell, highest capacity at an affordable price, used in consumer SSDs;
  • QLC (Quad-Level Cell): 4 bits per cell, maximum capacity, lowest endurance.

3D NAND

Modern ADATA SSDs use 3D NAND — a vertical cell layout that increases capacity without shrinking the process node and improves drive endurance.

DRAM Cache

ADATA drives use DRAM-based buffer memory for caching write and read operations, improving performance with small files and in multitasking scenarios.

Enterprise Deployment

ADATA products are used in the following scenarios:

  • Server systems: ECC, RDIMM, LRDIMM modules for Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC servers. Enterprise SSDs with enhanced endurance for storage systems.
  • Workstations: high-performance XPG modules and NVMe SSDs for engineering, design, and video workstations.
  • Office systems: basic Premier modules and SATA SSDs to boost office PC performance.
  • Backup systems: external HDDs and SSDs for local backup storage.

Warranty Periods

  • Memory modules: 3 to 5 years, with lifetime warranty for certain series;
  • SSD drives: 3 to 5 years;
  • External drives: 2-3 years.
